Autism

It’s funny how you pursue something to the ends of the Earth and then when you get it you are shocked. I took our diet results to the Psychologist who was intrigued but still maintained that our daughter had a mood disorder with ADHD. However, she referred us to a colleague.

In the mean time I had filled out the Autism questionnaire for the Autism Institute in California. The screener came back that our daughter had Aspersers. We met with the colleague and he concurred she has PDD-NOS.

Congratulations, Lisa. You got what you wanted. Now what? Agh!

Was I happy? No. But something inside me said – it doesn’t matter what you call it, you can fight it. With an Autism diagnosis, we qualified for more IEP services. This was a huge gain.

I am in the process of receiving my “Google degree” as Jenny McCarthy says and have learned a ton of information. I want to teach you my tricks and share our journey as we heal our kids of this new epidemic.

Ah yes..the old friend Google! I have what I call Google-itis. I diagnosed our son 7 years ago before finally ending the fight with our Regional Center to get AUTISM put down, not HFA not PDD. Then I finally got the autism diagnosis I wanted from the wonderful MIND Institute and Bam. I cried. Because I was happy the road ended? Nope. I cried for him for the first time.

It changed our lives but actually made all 7 of us stronger. I recently found your blog and am interested in seeing how you cope with your children.

      Marisa-

Isn’t that is strangest thing? You fight to get the diagnosis and then are devistated when they give it to you. It is just one of the many paradoxes we experience on this journey through special needs.
