Glasses

Implementing the GFCF diet was a chore and while I was seeinga change, would others notice too? The school noticed a huge change! His activity level became more normal.(Whatever you define normal as.) Eventually, as with everything we slowly went off the diet and stopped the supplement. We were spending thousands of dollars on these and the “immediate threat” was gone.

Slowly our son’s hyperactivity grew and his asthma came back – just here and there. It was at this time I started him in speech therapy and occupational therapy. I really can’t say if those helped or not, but I was busy!

Fast forward to half way through kindergarten. Our bouncy tyke was not completing any assignements. He was so loveable. Everyone made accommodations for him. He was so good at compensating for his weaknesses he pulled the wool over our eyes many a time.

My husband and I were observing him one day and noticed that he took his chair up and sat right underneath the chalkboard. I turned to my husband and said, “That’s not normal”. So off to the eye doctor I went. I took him to a specialist in vision therapy and she said he was almost blind. No kidding! He had severe farsightedness with astigmatism and both eyes were lazy. What? Basically if he could get his eyes to focus on a letter or word, it would immediately go blurry again. How had he accomplished anything? Amazing.

The doctor was using those little magnifying glass things to pick out his eyeglasses strength while she was talking to me. I was in shock. These glasses were so strong it Lens crafters (the one hour or less people) 2 weeks to make them! The optometrist explained that it might be hard to keep these glasses on my son. Then she took away the magnifiers. My son started crying. “I can’t see. Give those back. When do I get my glasses?”

It was heart breaking. That little bundle of energy would ask all day long, “how many more days until I get my glasses?” It has NEVER been a problem to keep those glasses on his face!
