Before you stop reading and think “Oh Lisa, she’s an organic, earthy person the diet works for her because that’s how they eat” WRONG! I am a recovering fast food junkie! There wasn’t a fast food restaurant I didn’t drive through before the diet. My waistline and pocket book will back me up on that one.
Before the diet it was nothing for me to eat out twice a day. Please don’t judge me! ? The turning point came in July of last year. We were driving home from Florida – 2 days, 6 meals, snacks and a crazy family stuck in an old minivan. The kids had been on the diet for 2 months. I was still earning about cross contamination (When the safe food is cooked on or near where non safe food is cooked), hidden gluten, and other bad things like food colorings, dyes, glavorings, high fructose corn syrup, soy, and hydrogenated oils.
Day one. I wasn’t feeling great which is unusual for me. I get a ton of migraines, but I am a pretty healthy person. We got McDonald’s for breakfast. McDonald’s makes my husband’s heart race and will give me a migraine. Why did we eat this stuff? I’ll tell you why, we thought it tasted good. It was quick. The kids begged for it. “We were good parents”.
Lunch – Burger King I think. The kids were whining something about a toy. Like we need more plastic you know what! I was feeling worse. By the time we got to the hotel. I begged my hubby to get the kids happy meals. I would take them to the pool while he went out to eat a nice dinner. We came – we swam – they argued. You know one big happy family vacation!
I brought the kids back to the room, which was spinning. Got them in bed and laid down. I can’t remember when I took my migraine pill. I think dinner time. I might have taken the second one at 8pm. This was going to be the Migraine of all Migraines.
I have had migraines since college. They are hormonal. I can also get them from food, and stress. I think I had a tri fecta. Oh that night was so long! I do not usually throw up with my migraines, but I did this time. I’m the person who has the latest migraine drug. You know the ones advertised on tv that always cost the most? My body builds up a tolerance just in time for the latest pill release. Right now I take Treximet.
The next day was a little better. In hindsight we think I may have had the flu. Whatever it was I was done with all fast food. Still to this day I only eat Skyline and Panera when I am out. Ok, Ok, I eat out 3-4 times a week at those places, but still, I am making progress!
So if I can do it. You can do it!

How about subway. good or bad?
Yes Judy-
Subway works too. For my daughter, we let her get the meat and veggies of a sub on lettuce in a bowl.
They have to charge you for a sub. Everytime I ask at a different restauraunt, it throws them for a loop, but it can be done!
When you’re out just think – meat and veggies with no sauces or seasonings and you should be fine!
