Getting started
It has been almost a year since we started the GFCF diet. If you are anything like me, :0) you want to have started yesterday! This post is a “where to go on the web” post. No two warrior mama stories are exactly alike. So, one website or blog will not help you entirely. Ready? Here are some great places to go:
Yahoo groups
First go to yahoo groups and create an account. The yahoo groups are groups of likeminded individuals who email the group questions and receive answers – very quickly! There are 3 I recommend.
GFCFkids: This is an AWESOME group! You will learn tons of information about implementing the diet and supplements.
GFCFrecipes: Need a safe recipe for a banned food (AKA mac n cheese)? These posters will know if it exists and what tastes best.
Autism-Mercury: This group supports people who want to chelate their children (or themselves) using the amino acid ALA. – I am doing this in the summer.
All of these sites send between 50 – 100 emails a day. It can be overwhelming, but the amount of free valuable information is amazing!
Websites
The first website to visit if you are serious is www.danasview.net I believe Dana started the GFCF kids yahoo group. She moderates that group and the Autism – Mercury group. She has 4 kids. She home schools and is a freelance lawyer. Dana is a wealth of information. And she NEVER took the kids to a special doctor or ran the expensive tests. She has healed her kids with research and observation. You can too!
The Autism Network for Dietary Intervention www.autismndi.com will help you get started. Both Lisa Lewis and Karyn Seroussi’s books are worth reading and buying. There are almost 200 FAQ. Take some time and read through them!
Need money for your kids treatments? Tori has started a website that facilitates microloans that are interest free for families at
www.lend4health.blogspot.com
I know it’s gross, but a lot of special needs kids don’t have regular bowel movements. You can learn a lot form poop! Tori has a special site just for you www.gfcfpoop.blogspot.com
Tori’s first blog has been on the web for almost 2 years. She has great information at www.gcfcblog.blogspot.com
www.gfcfdiet.com is one of the first sites I visited. I ordered their shopping book. It was a big help in the beginning. Also, they have a starter pack you can buy to get some GFCF finger foods in your home.
www.talkaboutcuringautism.com otherwise known as TACA has a ten week plan to get your child GFCF. It is definitely the easier way to go. TACA is an awesome resource!
