My kids have a phobia of bugs. Our fully finished basement goes largely unused because of spiders.
It is amazing what you will do to avoid a child’s melt down. When the kids were little I had to drive 2 miles out of my way to go home and not pass “the cone” ice cream place.
Even in winter – when it was closed – they would tantrum if we passed and did not stop. So, I drove home a different way.
Whenever possible, I avoid a meltdown. I know that kids have to learn they can’t have everything, blah, blah, blah.
But kids with ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities – they just don’t react the same way as other kids. Discipline is a chore and the lessons take a long time for them to learn.
So, as much as I can, I change my life to make theirs easier.
Both our kids don’t like bees, but Job is terrified of them. To the point that he did not go out the front door last summer because the bees might be near the rhododendron bushes.
In the back yard there were bees too and so – Job stayed inside for the summer. Literally. It drove my hubby crazy!
So this year, when the bees came out, I decided I wanted our son to use the front door more than I needed pink flowering rhododendron bushes.
As I was pondering what to do about this delema – the bushes started to bloom – and the bees started to arrive. Job’s bee adverse comments started coming out.
And I snapped. Not being able to dig up the bushes yet, I cut off all the blossoms – at 6:30 in the moring – in my robe! I could not live with another summer of carpenter bees.
So here my bushes sit 6 weeks after Easter. They still aren’t gone, but we don’t have bees.
