Confessions of an Organization- a holic

I thrive on having a TON to do. The more I have to do, the more organized I am and the less surfing the net I do.  – Not that there is anything wrong with that! :0)

So this summer I am taking 6 graduate credit hours, writing a book, tutoring, orchestrating 40 NAET treatments, working on my blog and website.

That sounds like enough right? Of course not! I am going back to WORK. Hello. I am the woman who quit working BEFORE I had kids – or was even pregnant.

So now, in my mind, every square inch of our house has to be completely deep cleaned, organized and streamlined for maximum efficiency next year. I’m going to share my plan with you.

If you are still reading it is because you are intrigued and would love to know how I am going to make this happen. Or you are still trying to figure out what makes me tick – by the way, let me know if you figure it out.

Anyway, I bought pink legal pads for my house lists. Anything I need to do for the home goes on a pink legal pad. Now if you don’t know me personally, you should know I am already organized. So I am obsessively reorganizing what is already pretty organized.

I have divided my house into 15 sections for assessment and  organization. Here they are:

  1. Master Closet. I don’t have a lot of clothes. I tend to buy classic looking clothes with a few trendy tops. I have 3 summer and 3 winter pairs of shoes and one purse I use. I want to try on all my pants and iron all my clothes. Anything else in the closet like towels, dress shoes, etc will meet with strict scrutiny to see if it will remain. – Then I am going to go to a great consignment shop in Akron to fill in my holes in my wardrobe. It’s been 12 years since I had to wear nice clothes 5 days a week!
  2. Master Bath. Clean out the linen closet and restock shampoo, shave gel etc. Clean out under each sink. Clean out the drawer next to the sink. Possibly re-grout the shower and re-caulk.
  3. Master Bedroom. My bedroom is also my office. I need to clean out the dresser, night stand, bookshelf and office furniture. I would love to organize the kid’s art that is under my bed, but I am putting that off until next summer.

I also need to buy a matching lamp to my husbands and new lamp shades.

  1. Both kid’s rooms are organized. I needed to re-hang Job’s closet shelf. I also hung up all his hats on long nails in the closet. I will organize again in August and get kids fall clothes ready.
  2. Kid’s bath. Take down school posters. (I was hoping they would learn multiplication skip counting through osmosis) Add a shower curtain liner for showers. Clean out under the sink and the drawers. Buy a new rug. Check meds in medicine cabinet.
  3. Loft. AKA toy room. Dust. Straighten. I organized the Lego’s a few weeks ago.
  4. Living Room and Dining Room. Clean out hutch that I use for tutoring. Clean out China hutch. ?Recover dining room chairs? (Been on my list of 4 years) Buy a few new table clothes that fit the table. ?clean windows? (again done about every 3 years. This won’t get done.)
  5. Front Hall and back hall. I just reorganized the closet over spring break. At the end of September I will put away the swimsuits and put the gloves and hats in the kid’s bins. Fix hooks in back hall.
  6. Main bathroom. Clean out under sink.
  7. Laundry room. Clean out cabinets. Put away pool towels. Dust.
  8. Garage. Clean and straighten
  9. Family room. Deep clean wash down doors and windows.
  10. Kitchen. This one will take a good full day or more. I am hoping to be free from diet restrictions this fall. This will give me 2 huge cabinets back. I need to make a huge list of foods for dinners and restock the house with regular foods we can eat. Clean the windows – these will get clean :0) Organize my files. Shop for birthday cards. Stock the kid’s overflow school supplies.
  11. Basement. Restock the pantry. Clean out the storage room. Go through closets for older toys to get rid of.
  12. Yard. Maintain the gardens. Buy glass block windows for the basement. Pull out the bushes on the far side of the house. Plant grass. :0)

So there you have it. How an obsessive organizer thinks. I already got started on this list last week because – it excites me. Go figure! So, do you want me to update you on how I am doing on this list over the summer? Do you want to see pictures? Let me know!

  2. Sue says:

Lisa, are you sure you need those graduate hours in education? LOL Sounds like you already have your Ph.D in household organization! You know, there is a great demand for people with your skills coming into other folks’ homes to get them organized. This could be a very lucrative career…And who knows what could happen after that? …your own show on HGTV perhaps!

I wish I had 1/4 of your energy!

      Sue-

That is so funny! I DID have that job and loved it very much. but never could find and effective way to advertise it!

FYI – organizing middle school children IS the ultimate challenge. :)

      :0)

Oh Lisa! You have not changed one bit, and I love it!!!! The pink legal pads are so you! I can see you writing your detailed list now. I have to admit, growing up with you did wear off on me. I too make the obsessive organizational lists. Wish you were still in the area because I would love to have an organizational business with you. :)

Since you are going to build your new wardrobe at a shop in Akron I assume you will be in town later this summer. I really hope to be able to catch up with you.

    Love always,
    Maria

….by the way….are you going back to teach?
