You can read all about my master plan here.
Ok well I am truly addicted. I couldn’t wait to get started on my master organization plan.
- Master Closet. Time 3 hours
I really needed to get this done right away because I was travelling to Akron. They have an awesome consignment store there and I would have a whole day without kids to try on clothes.
I pulled out all my clothes and tried on all my pants, Capri’s and shorts. Let’s face it. I don’t exercise and I don’t diet. So the few skinny pants and most of the shorts were gone.
In the last 3 years I have bought pretty much only black pants. To the extent that I have 5 pairs of dress black pants. Can we say – uniform? I ironed the keeper pants, hung them up and took a blackberry picture for my trip up north.
My tops all fit, but some are literally 15 years old. I got rid of some and put about 15 more in a holding section on the rack. I figure if I can’t find any warm clothes at the store, I can wear these one more year.
I re-hung the mirror that fell in the closet. Got rid of ½ my belts that don’t make it around my middle and straightened my shoes.
I filled the trunk of the van with my donations and checked the master closet off my list
- Master Bath. Time 2 hours
I clean out the linen closet and bought tons of shampoo, shave gel etc.
I cleaned out under each sink. I bought 2 big clear boxes with lids and sorted all the left over supplements we had from the kids. I made a master list of the supplements in a notebooks I have so I can check the list before heading off to the store. (I also keep all my computer password and library card number in that notebook too.)
I clean out the drawer next to the sink and got rid of the extra make up etc.
- Master Bedroom. About 8 hours over 3 days.
My bedroom is also my office. Being a researcher and obsessive about each project I start, I had a few big interests from the past few years that needed to be moved.
The bookshelf
The first was Homeopathy. I have about 40 books and numerous remedies. I moved the collection to the basement. The next was a slew of parenting, ADHD and autism books. Again they went to the basement.
There was a pile of my dad’s memorabilia I needed to bring to Akron. There were 2 scrapbooks “in progress” to be moved to the basement with my other scrapbooking stuff. All that was left was a basket for lost socks and my Warrior MAMA files.
I put a basket for bills next to the socks. Devoted the middle shelf to Warrior MAMA and put books on the bottom.
My dresser
My dresser houses many things from old VHS tapes to bible study notes and some pj’s. It was a quick clean. Socks that were cute, but I hadn’t worn in 5 years were gone. A really warm pair of jammies I asked for and received were too hot to wear – gone.
My night stand was already straightened which just left my business “hutch”. I bought this- Target put it together yourself piece -8 years ago to house scrapbook supplies. For years I scrapbooked on my bed every night.
Next it housed the Kids IEP’s doctor’s notes, supplements, medicines, and books. Now the right side has home office stuff like the kids current IEP’s and mailing supplies. The left is full of school supplies for my new teaching job and the center drawers have office supplies and files.
Hubby and I stopped by Target on our date and bought new lamp shades for the night stands.
- Kid’s bath. 2 hours
On that same Target trip we got the kids a new rug and shower curtain liner. I trashed all the tooth brushes and gave the kids each ONE. Pink and Orange. We’ll see how long it lasts. The posters were removed and I scrubbed the shower, tub, walls and floor down.
The loft and kids rooms look fine, so I marked items 1-6 off my list!
I forgot to take picture this time, but will try to remember next time!!
