My Last Day of Summer Vacation

Well the time has come for me to return to the workforce. I start tomorrow. I am nervous and excited!!

So today, I finished up my monster “to do” list that I made for the summer.

I started with the half finished projects inside, but quickly turned the day into a garden day since the weather was so nice!!

I started by trimming back the raspberry and blackberry bushes. And I found these cute fall raspberries almost ready to be picked!

I then cleaned up the other neglected flower beds. I am so glad that this summer has been so perfect for the gardens. I have not had to water at all!!

Next I got busy cleaning out the vegetable gardens. I harvested my carrots, potatoes and onions. Can you believe my haul?!

onions and potatoes

I was so inspired that I went out and bought more manure and peat moss to get the gardens ready for the spring. While I was out I decided to move 2 of the 2×2 garden beds up to the main garden so that my carrots could grow deeper and not grow so deformed this year!! I also decided that the potatoes would grow better here next year.

Here is the “redneck” new veggie garden!

Before I was done, I decided to plant some lettuce and carrots today to harvest in a few months.

I spent the night cleaning the inside of the house and getting the kids ready for school and grandma’s tomorrow.

I also wanted to show you that we did get the bushes (mostly) removed and the new glass block windows put in the basement. I cannot believe how much better the outside looks and how much brighter the basement is!!

new basement windows

Since the old windows were behind bushes, I kept the blinds drawn. Now the basement is full of light during the day and the kids are naturally going down there to play!! Who Hoo!!

Hope you all are having a great end to your summer and getting ready for the new school year!

You’ve been busy. I’m not getting anything from my garden this year, because my husband bought the wrong bug killer. He bought the kind that you don’t use on vegetables.
