Andrew’s Story ~ One hour consultation call

My name is Tammy and I highly recommend Lisa Woodruff’s consulting services when it comes to children with ’special needs’.

I consulted with Lisa regarding my son, Andrew.  She had heard about a few of the symptoms he was having and the opposite opinions I was given by two different doctors through my posts on Facebook.  Lisa offered to share with me her experiences and I accepted because I felt so lost.

I expected support and recommendations but not to the extent she gave me. I was truly amazed with the amount of knowledge she had with not only taking care of her two special needs children but talking with other parents and doctor and the research she had done.

She gave me more insight than any of the 5 doctors we had seen. She definitely helped me decide where to go next regarding my own research for my son.

I feel like she saved me a lot of time and frustration and her insight was very much appreciated.

Will’s Story ~ Diet consultation

My son William had just turned two when we realized he was not a typical child and started our journey in trying to help him.  William had speech delays, sensory processing disorder, and possible autism.  The areas of greatest concern were his behavior and lack of social skills.  William was aggressive, loud, rough in play, not affectionate, lacked good eye contact, impulsive, and seemed angry and agitated all the time.

Over the next year we utilized Help Me Grow and private speech and OT services.  William showed some progress but it was slow and still did not control the aggressive and impulsive behavior.  When he started preschool he bit the teacher in the butt the very first time he walked in the door.  The doctors prescribed Tenax which made him sleepy all the time.  The next drug used was Risperdal which did help with his aggression.

The stares I got were often when I was out shopping or playing at the park.  People just assumed I was a bad parent and couldn’t control my child.  I felt helpless until my momma voice instinctively told me there has to be other alternative therapies to try.

In steps Lisa Woodruff, she is supportive and nonjudgmental of my parenting.  She suggests trying a GFCF diet because she has seen some real improvements in her own children.  I got online and immediately felt overwhelmed.  There is information overload on this topic but I just couldn’t digest it and make it practical for my son.

So the next day I called Lisa and said – Help!  I don’t know how to get started and make this work specifically for William. She broke it down so quickly for me.  Lisa explained to take it in steps, let’s try GF only and see within a week if you see signs of behavior changes.  She explained what products to get by brand.  These products can get expensive so you want something you know is “kid approved”.

Lisa told me where to shop but most importantly we’re her tips for success.  I felt equipped to handle any resistance of the new food diet.  Did it work?  I went out to the store that day, picked up the “meals” we talked about and within a week I did see improvements.  His aggression was less.  Lisa also suggested more proteins into his diet which seemed to help with his hyperactive and impulsive behavior.

I was not judged by Lisa and within a couple of hours I was on my way to a successful GF diet plan.  Adding on and making changes is much more doable when you get the main stuff downAfter 3 weeks on the diet I was able to titrate William off the Risperdal and he continued to show increased improvement without any medications.

Sometimes I feel alone in my fight to help my child through alternative treatments but I know I am one of many parents city-wide fighting the same fight. Wouldn’t it be great to collaborate all our hard work and trial and error into one site that we could use as a guide.  It would be nice to know what doctors you can trust. To not feel alone and to have a guide on alternative treatments would save so much time and energy and validate the mama warrior in each of us.
